  The fourth Shanghai International Young Scholar Forum of Universities, Sub-Forum of Civil Engineering and Surveying, which was jointly organized by the College of Civil Engineering and the College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics, was held successfully at Tongji University from 27th to 29th of March, 2019. More than 40 outstanding young scholars from China, the United States, Denmark, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan and other countries and regions participated in this forum to conduct discussions and exchanges around international scientific frontier, hot research fields and technical problems of industries. Responding to the call that universities shall accelerate the construction of "double first-class", the forum aims to strengthen the academic exchanges between our teachers and outstanding young scholars at home and abroad, and prepare for the national talent plan work and the construction of reserve talent pool.

  Fang Ping, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of the university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. He briefly reviewed the history of Tongji University, welcomed outstanding young scholars from home and abroad, and wished the forum a great success. Zhao Xianzhong, dean of the College of Civil Engineering, introduced the history and current situation of the College of Civil Engineering, and on behalf of the college, he welcomed all the young scholars to join them. He also wished all of the guests a fruitful and wonderful time in Shanghai. Tong Xiaohua, dean of the College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics expressed thanks to the distinguished young overseas scholars, and sincerely invited all young talents to join Tongji University, which is a well-known, excellent scientific research highland, where they could make outstanding contributions in civil, building, deep space exploration, remote sensing and other high-tech fields. He also wished all scholars a good time on the campus in the season of cherry blossom.

  Then, Xie Huan, vice president of the College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics briefly introduced the college in sub-forum of Surveying, and started a one-day report and discussion. Young scholars from around the world reported their frontier research and latest scientific research achievements in the field of surveying and mapping, including topics in remote sensing and deep space exploration, satellite navigation and positioning, global change and major disasters monitoring, key technology of space information and sensor network, and many other fields. After the report, the scholars had a heated discussion with the teachers and students.

  During the forum period, leaders and professors of the college had in-depth conversations with scholars, introduced the current scientific research, discipline construction, talent plan, foreign exchange and other aspects of the college, and expressed their expectation for them to join the college. The success of the forum will play a positive role in enhancing the internationalization level of young teachers in the college, promoting the first-class discipline construction and overall development of the college.
