Recently, Rongxing Li's team from the College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics at Tongji University, in collaboration with several domestic research institutions, published an article titled "Reconciled Estimation of Antarctic Ice Sheet Mass Balance and Contribution to Global Sea Level Change from 1996 to 2021" in Science China Earth Sciences.
For the first time, the study integrated 16 mass balance estimates provided by eight domestic institutions to assess the comprehensive mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet and its regional components from 1996 to 2021. The results indicate that during this period, the Antarctic ice sheet lost approximately 3213 ± 253 gigatonnes (Gt) of ice, contributing to a global sea level rise of about 8.9 ± 0.7 millimeters.
